What is CFAB?

CFAB is a private, member owned cooperative.

Co-op-er-a-tive−adj. marked by a willingness to work with others − noun; an enterprise owned by and operated by those using its services.

By its very definition that means people.  People own us.  People use our services.  People make things happen with our loans.  People repay our loans.  People manage us.  People deliver our services.  In short people are the reason for CFAB to exist and are CFAB itself.  The people attitude permeates the fabric of CFAB.

Interdependence is what separates CFAB from other lending institutions and provides its additional strength.  The member/borrower is not benefiting some distant stockbroker with his business.  He is benefiting himself and his fellow fishers, farmers, small business owners−Alaskans.

Cooperative is the key description of CFAB and what makes it different from the other members of the financial community.  YOU own it; when you borrow from CFAB YOU buy a piece of the pie so to speak.  Your capital contribution is made in relation to the size of the loan YOU receive.  YOU have a vote in what CFAB does.  As a stockholder, YOU elect the Board of Directors.  YOU share in the earnings of CFAB.  While maximizing profits is not our primary goal (serving our membership is) CFAB has and will continue to strive to make good profits.  These profits belong to YOU, the members.  CFAB is a financially healthy business.  It has a strong capital base and leveraging abilities through CoBank.  This enables CFAB to meet your financial needs.

Expertise is what gives CFAB its edge.  Our roots are in the fishing and agriculture industries − we have specialized in these industries for 28 years and know them quite well.  In 2000 we added tourism and other resource based industries to our repertoire and provide the same passion to these industries that we have demonstrated in the fishing and agriculture industries.  This enables us to understand your needs and problems more completely.
